In 1887, a German ophthalmologist, Rudolf Berlin, was the first to use the word ‘dyslexia.’ So why is it so difficult to identify in learners?
The students I work with have had years upon years of difficulty while learning in public schools. They gave up. Their teachers never knew why little “Johnny” just couldn’t learn. The system failed them. As adult learners; the struggle still continues.
As a parent… the light bulb finally went on. My child has spent seven years within formal education and none of his teachers had ever let on that his learning style was exceptional. His teachers hadn’t had proper training in dyslexia or the visual learner. Why?
It is within this blog that I will advocate for increased training for teachers, which in turn can help provide answers for concerned parents.
In time, I will build in additional teacher tools… aimed to assist teachers everywhere who are struggling to reach these visual-spatial learners.
