The healing journey I pursued took me down another holistic path- to a Nutritionist with a new perspective on health & nutrition. I was looking for that magic authority who could assist me in this healing journey… with food.
My provider took a detailed analysis of all the issues we uncovered with previous alternative care providers. Diets, symptoms, etc… all were recorded. At this time, parasites were of most concern to me. We sent off for analysis a sample from which no evidence was found or reported back to us. I was informed, that it would be a gamble to even send such a test in for analysis… it is often not obvious to normal inspection procedures.
Our meetings led us to the conclusion that my child has had a compromised immune system from birth, which was a C-section. Also possibly affected by a series of childhood vaccinations. We were warned of over-stressed adrenal glands which can easily lead to a large number auto-immune diseases. In the end, we were pointed to the GAPS diet as our only solution. We had a strong imbalance of gut microbes. I ordered the book, read and studied it.
Knowing how difficult it was for my child to consume daily supplements; I knew that a diet of bone broth, tea, and fermented vegetables would go nowhere. I did tinker with home-made yogurt at this time. Cooking it up in a counter-top toaster oven. One batch turned out beautifully. The next one bombed. Healthy as it was, I was unable to force it into the mouth of my health-compromised child.
